This review will cover a brewery which I have a lot of respect for and I feel is a brilliant brewery. Previously, I have tried ales from Alnwick Brewery such as the IPA and Brown Ale. I have previously written a review on Alnwick Brewery IPA if you would like to check it out. This can stood out to me with the bright pink and blue and the fact it is a New England India Pale Ale which is my favourite type. During this review, I will cover the history, the pour and the taste and aroma. And finally my verdict.
A history beginning 200 years ago
The story of Alnwick Brewery begins back in the mid-18th century, with brewing operations beginning in the 1750s in the Northumberland market town of Alnwick. By the 1840s, the brewery had honour of being brewers to the Duke of Northumberland. In 1890, the business was officially incorporated as The Alnwick Brewery Company Limited and continued to thrive until its closure in 1963.
For several decades, the brand lay dormant until its revival in the early 2000s. The brewery was re-established by Ian Linsley, son of the last managing director before the original closure. In 2013, Harry Hotspur Holdings Ltd took over and merged it with the VIP Brewery at Hawkhill, giving Alnwick Brewery a new home and a modern lease on life. Today, the brewery continues to celebrate its rich heritage while producing a variety of ales, including this standout NEIPA.
The Abv of this beverage is 4.6% which comes in 440ml cans.
New England IPA pour meets Northumberland
When pouring from the can, I immediately noticed the typical golden straw colour with the hazy look as you can see above. It has a fluffy head which has a decent retention down the glass. This is also unfiltered. The NEIPA has a balanced level of carbonation along with the smoothness.
A delicious taste and even better aroma
When pouring, you are immediately met with a tropical and citrus aroma. I would say I could smell the likes grapefruit, mango and passionfruit. I am unsure what hops are used in this however the depth of aroma is very impressive. This is very inviting and pleasant.
At the time of the first sip, I was immediately hit with juicy hop flavour which gave off notes of grapefruit and lemon rind. I would say there was bitterness that was perfectly balanced as it did not overpower the flavour. This had a dry and crisp finish which made this very refreshing. Overall, this beer is a great example of a New England India Pale Ale, it is very refreshing and juicy which is totally my preference when it comes to an India Pale Ale.
Time for my verdict
To start, I love trying any ales that are local to me. Especially from areas I visit such as Alnwick. I often purchase beers based on the location I visit and this is one of those occasions. But in terms of this beer, I feel this is an extremely session able hazy pale ale. This is smooth, juicy and refreshing which is everything I want from a hazy pale. I really like this beer and I am looking forward to trying some more Alnwick Brewery beer and maybe visit the brewery when I am next up Northumberland. I rate this beer a very decent 4.5 out of 5. Top notch.

I purchased the Alnwick Brewery NEIPA from a shop in Alnwick town centre called a Taste of Northumbria. This cost around £3.60.
