Flash House Brewing x Mosaic Tap “How Long You Been Here?” Review – 6% NEIPA Tasting Notes

Whilst on a trip out to the Fish Quay, I decided to stop off at Flash House Brewing to purchase a can to bring with me. I thought I would give this brewery a try especially trying my favourite style which is a NEIPA. The beer of note is Flash House Brewing x Mosaic Tap How long you been here? I have heard of this brewery having seen their cans available in a couple shops around the Whitley Bay area. So what did I think? Find out as I cover the history of this brewery and beer as well as the pour and the flavour profile. Please enjoy!

A fine addition to the Fish Quay

Flash House Brewing is a small independent brewery based in the Fish Quay area of North Shields. Founded by Jack O’Keefe in 2015, they began brewing in 2016 using a 5 barrel plant.

The breweries ethos is that of small batch beers which are world inspired which utilising exploring new varieties consistently. Within their brewery, they operate a taproom which is open on Fridays and Saturdays. They have an offering of keg, cask, can and bottles. Flash house also likes to offer a friendly and community based area which creates a great atmosphere for those who visit.

Mosaic Tap is a small independent craft beer taproom currently located at Forth Goods Yard in Newcastle. However they are looking at relocating to the old Prohibition Bar location on Pink Lane, Newcastle. The bar opened in 2021 and quickly became a popular location for the growing craft beer scene in the city. They have a reputation for curating a number of local and world beers to their site. Mosaic Tap was founded by Isaac Vernon who was a graphic designer and had an interest in the beer focused venues in London. Using a Loan he founded this famous taproom. The taproom currently offers 10 keg taps and a wide selection cans and bottles.

How long you been here? is a collaboration beer between Flash House and Mosaic Tap to celebrate Mosaic Taps 4th birthday. It is an NEIPA which carries an ABV of 6%. This is brewed using Mosaic, Sabro and Moteuka hops as well as Oats, Barley, Wheat and Yeast. Offering a juicy and hop driven beer.

A hazy foamy pour

Flash House Brewing How long you been here? Presents a golden to yellow hazy colour which is opaque in appearance. The head is foamy and pillowy, that left lacing down the glass. The carbonation was moderate to lively with a constant stream of bubbles present. Overall, an inviting and hazy pour

A juicy and tropical taste and aroma

Aroma

When it comes to the aroma, a hop forward tropical flavour is immense with notes of mango and passionfruit, with the addition of citrus zests such as lemon and berry flavours. An addition to the aromatics is a stone fruit and malt sweetness which is what you would expect from a hazy style IPA. Overall, A nice and refreshing aromatic IPA.

Taste

When it comes to How long you been here? It very much follows on from the aroma. Flavours of pineapple and fresh mango are present which is then followed by a citrus note but this time I think more Orange like. There is warm sweetness from the malt base which adds to base and balance. The finish is clean and juicy with a moderate degree of bitterness. Overall, a full bodied and deeply flavoured NEIPA.

Time for my verdict

I usually go for a NEIPA to try out a new brewery and this one was a great introduction. I really enjoyed this beer, the hop forward and tropical forward offers a juice like feel to session with the malt base and bitterness adding a refreshing edge. I feel like this is also a cool collaboration too, the Mosaic Tap is a cool little bar and Flash House is somewhere I hope to return to as I never got to stop off for a pint. I will in the future. Overall, I rate this a solid 4.25 out of 5. Cheers

Where did I purchase this?

I purchased this beer from Flash House Brewing’s taproom just up from the Fish Quay. A really friendly and approachable brewery, I will definitely be returning.

If you enjoyed this beer review you will love my review of a brewery just a few units up from Flash House called Low Quay Krushin’. Cheers for reading.
