A beer review from someone who just loves beer.

Verdant Brewing’s Sundialer Pale Ale: Juicy Citrus, Soft Haze & Sessionable Perfection

Purchased from Fenwicks in Newcastle, this is from an independent brewery with serious pedigree in the UK craft beer scene. From Cornwall, this is a hop forward beer which follows my favourite style, a New England IPA. During course of reviewing this Cornwall craft beer, I will cover the history of the Verdant brewing and SunDialer, the pour, the taste and aroma and finally what I think or as frequent viewers of my page know, my verdict.

Background to Verdant Brewing SunDialer Pale Ale

Verdant Brewing was founded in 2014 by home brewers Adam Robertson, James Heffron and Rich Warren to create US craft inspired beers. Their mission is ‘: “We make beers we love, now and forever.’ This was performed with quality, hop forwardness and innovation in mind.

Based in Penryn, Cornwall, their ethos has is mainly focused around being independent and inclusive. Verdant Brewing are known for juicy hop forward beers which are hazy and unfiltered . So everything I like in a beer. This led to Verdant Brewing being one of the brewers to set a high benchmark in terms of Craft Brewing in the UK.

When it comes to Sundialer, it is described as a hazy pale ale which is part of Verdant Brewings core lineup. It carries an ABV of 5% and is hopped using Motueka, Mosaic and Strata. However, Motueka is the hop that leads the way in this beer. It also includes the use of caramalts and oats.

An opaque pour

When poured this, juicy looking hazy pale ale shows a yellow liquid which is opaque due to its unfiltered nature. It develops a foamy white head which left a decent amount of lacing down the glass. The body of this beer was soft and smooth with a gentle amount of carbonation. The first impression of Sundialer is quality.

A juicy and hoppy delight

When it comes to the aroma, on the nose it holds a tropical fruit and citrus forward aroma. This includes notes of grapefruit and mango. There is also an undertone of apricot. To finish the aroma, there was the addition of a pine flavour. Overall, a juicy and fresh aroma.

In terms of flavour, this mirrors the aroma with the pronounced citrus taste along with tropical fruits. This is also followed by the pine. The finish to this brew is dry and the soft bitterness gives Sundialer a slight earthy feel. The addition of oats and malts keeps this beer lively and well balanced. Overall, a typical Motueka led beer which is packed with juicy and flavoursome notes.

Time for my verdict

Overall, this was a nice hazy pale ale from this Cornwall based brewery which exemplifies the importance of quality over quantity when it comes to beer. This was a juicy, aromatic and smooth beer which could easily be sessionable. A lovely typical hop forward addition to Verdant Brewing’s Lineup. Overall, I rate this a very decent 4 out of 5.

Where did I purchase this beer?

I purchased this beer from Fenwicks foodhall in Newcastle. I believe this can cost me around £5.50. I recommend Fenwicks if you would to pick up any local North East themed beers. Cheers.
