For my first review of 2026, Das Ist Techno Sex by Up Front Brewing is a beer I have seen people rave about. This is a gose sour beer which I don’t tend to do reviews on as I am not a big fan of the sour beer style. Born in Scotland, when I saw this can I knew I had to try to it whether I liked it or not. So, during the course of this review I will cover the history of this beer and brewery, the pour, the taste and aroma and finally my verdict.
Born due to experiments
Up Front Brewing was founded in 2015 in Glasgow, Scotland by brewer Jake Griffin. His aim is to share his love of craft beer with everyone else. Starting out as a nomadic brewer, meaning he didn’t have his own facility, instead Jake started brewing in places that had spare capacity such as Overtone Brewing.
After many years of hard work and self finance by Jake himself. Up Front experimented with a wide range of unusual ingredients and brewing techniques. In late 2023 into 2025, Jake moved Up Front Brewing into its own production space in Strathaven and acquired its own brewing kit and can line.
Das Ist Techno Sex is a gose style sour beer which was originally created for a Brewdog collabfest event. However, this quickly became one of Up Front’s main releases. Known for its bold flavour, Das Ist Techno Sex has a passionfruit and key lime gose base with pink Himalayan salt and corriander beer base. It is also dry hopped with Citra. The beer carries an ABV of 5.4% and is recognised as a fun and quirky beer.
A lively sour

When poured from the can, Das Ist Techno Sex presents a golden colour with a slight hazy edge, it is possibly due to the unfiltered gose nature. This means there is a small amount of sediment. The beer appeared to be quite lively with is unique to me for this style of beer. The light head was small but still lingered around long after the initial pour.
A fruity and intense taste and aroma
Taste
On the first observation of Das Ist Techno Sex, the beer immediately bursts with tropical fruits from the major addition of passionfruit aswell as a citrus edge from the lime. There is a gentle salty note which keeps the beer balanced and crisp. A light herbal flavour emerges due to the coriander seed with a hop edge from the citra hops. Overall, fruity, sharp and inviting.
Aroma
The first sip on the palate gives an immediate sour hit then followed by a juicy passionfruit and key lime flavour. The acidity is bright but not overpowering. Mid-palate, the beer opens with soft body and herbal note that of coriander seed. There is a salty edge which helps to counter act the citrus bitterness. Leading to a crisp and dry finish. Overall, this is a beer which is big in flavour but extremely well balanced. Surprisingly a beer I really liked.
Time for my verdict.
Up Front Brewing Das Ist Techno Sex being a style of beer I usually can’t drink or go for. This one did take me by surprise, the sourness which puts me off a lot of the sour beers was perfectly balanced here. I felt the flavours that were used was great and overall balance of the beer was on point. I felt the passionfruit and lime base was a good combination was gave the beer bold flavour but a really refreshing and juicy edge. The amount of salt used was enough to perfectly balance the acidic nature, unlike some before where it tasted like sea water. Overall, this is a sour gose beer I would go for again and I rate this 4 out of 5. Cheers
