Revolution Brewing Hazy Hero Review: Juicy, Smooth Chicago Hazy IPA

I purchased this beer back in November 2025, my first from United States based brewery called Revolution Brewing. This 7.3% ABV Hazy IPA really did pack a punch. Bought from Trembling Madness on a visit to York with my girlfriend, keep reading to find out more. I will cover the history of this brewery and beer, the pour, the taste and aroma and finally my verdict. Cheers.

One of the largest independent breweries in Illinois.

Revolution Brewing was by Josh Deth in 2010 who had a passion for brewing which was accrued by visits to various craft breweries. The brewery began as a brewpub in Logan Square, Chicago. A focal point for great food and beer in Chicago. Within two years, the brewery had expanded into a fully fledged production set up with a can and bottling distribution setup. This is based in Avondale.

Famous for its innovative and wide selection of styles. Its Hero series has become one of its most popular with each edition showcasing its character. This led to Revolution Brewing becoming one of the largest independent owned craft breweries in Illinois.

Hazy Hero subsequently is part of the Hero series and is one of Revolution’s year round can options. This beer was developed from earlier editions such as the Northeast-Hero which utilises bold hop character using Citra, Sultana, Centennial, Cashmere, Amarillo and Mosaic hops. This beer helped encourage the sweep of the hazy IPA had one worldwide craft beer culture.

A distinctively hazy pour

When poured, this beer certainly does the name justice. The beer gives off a deep golden to orange colour which glows. This is distinctively hazy and opaque which is bang on for the New England IPA style. A moderate white head forms which is creamy, this also showed a good level of retention and left a decent amount of lacing. This beer is more soft allowing for a gentle carbonation. Overall, this is a pretty inviting and typical hazy IPA pour.

A hop forward taste and aroma

Aroma

As soon as this is poured, Hazy Hero knocks your socks off with its hop forward nature which was remarkable in its citrus and tropical nature. There were notes of mango, orange and passionfruit. There was also a subtle malt backbone which was sweet and oatie. This was a clearly hop driven aroma which was juicy and fresh, very inviting.

Taste

When it comes to taste, Hazy Hero is a juicy and smooth drinker. This pretty much mirrors the aroma which presents tropical and citrus flavours. Similarly, I picked up mango, pineapple, orange and this time peach. The malt base offers a gentle sweetness which helps round out the beer. The bitterness is moderate which offers a refreshing bite. Overall, this ended with a dry finish which proceeded a juicy and hoppy experience.

Time for my verdict

Overall, this beer offers THE experience when it comes to a strong hazy IPA. This one really peaked my interest in USA based ales. A punch is definitely packed with the drinking experience with the depth of flavour and you can definitely tell the strength of this beer. I really enjoyed this one and I will keep an eye out for more Revolution Brewing beers. To conclude I rate this a solid 4.5 out of 5.

Where did I purchase this beer?

I purchased this beer from Trembling Madness which I stated earlier. Cracking bar and bottle shop. I really recommend this store to anyone across the nation.
