Verdant PuTTTy ’25 TIPA Review – Triple IPA Powerhouse from Verdant Brewing Co

Having tried Verdant Putty ‘26 whilst on a visit to Manchester. I thought I would give last year’s triple IPA version a go. I saw this online at my local craft beer shop called The Rare Drop and thought, let’s give it a go. Verdant PUTTTY is a bigger and bolder version of the regular annual release. So in this review of triple IPA version of Verdant Puttty ‘25.I will cover the history of this brewery and beer, the pour, the taste and aroma and my finally my verdict. Cheers

An annual release but amped up

Verdant Brewing was founded in 2014 by home brewers Adam Robertson, James Heffron and Rich Warren to create US craft inspired beers. Their mission is ‘: “We make beers we love, now and forever.’ This was performed with quality, hop forwardness and innovation in mind.

Based in Penryn, Cornwall, their ethos has is mainly focused around being independent and inclusive. Verdant Brewing are known for juicy hop forward beers which are hazy and unfiltered . So everything I like in a beer. This led to Verdant Brewing being one of the brewers to set a high benchmark in terms of Craft Brewing in the UK.

Putty is Verdant’s flagship DIPA which is an anticipated annual release. The first edition was brewed in 2017 for Northern Monks Hop City festival which offers something bold and juicy. It was designed with malt profiles such as Golden Promise, wheat, oats and flaked wheat. A whirlpool and dry hopping combo of Galaxy, Mosaic and Azacca hops. Every January, Putty quickly sells out.

In 2025, Verdant took Putty even further by releasing Puttty which is triple IPA version. This is still hopped the same as regular Putty but instead increases the boundaries on bold hop saturation and intensity. Having kept the Hazy style, this appears to be an even bolder version of the famous double IPA carrying an ABV of 10%.

A completely hazy pour

When poured in my schooner this appears completely opaque and ridiculously hazy. The colour is a lighter yellow to gold colour which glows in the light. A dense white head forms which is foamy, and leaves a heavy amount of lacing down the glass as you drink it. This was smooth and almost juice like as the carbonation was quite moderate. Overall, a juicy and modern appearing IPA.

An explosive taste and aroma

Aroma

This beer was extraordinarily aromatic. The flavour was bursting as soon as I opened the can. There were waves of tropical fruits such as mango and passionfruit as well as a pine and citrus undertone. As the aroma unlocks a orange and resinous smell begins to present itself which rounds off the juicy feel to the beer. Despite being 10%, I didn’t notice the smell of alcohol and this one stayed more soft than warm and bitter. Overall, an extremely juicy and depth filled experience.

Taste

The first sip of Verdant Puttty was full on in terms of flavour. This had an explosion of tropical flavours such as mango, pineapple and peach. This was quickly followed by lemon and orange which give it a ripe citrus taste. Mid palate, the malt base adds an extra layer of gentle sweetness whilst allowing for a balanced and creamy texture. Towards the end of this experience a soft pine and grapefruit flavour presents itself. The alcohol says quite restrained in this drink which allows for smooth warmth to push through. Overall, a juicy, smoothie like beer which highlights Verdant’s mission to be bold.

Time for my verdict

Right, to start on my verdict I will caveat that Verdant Puttty ‘25 had a best before date of 18th August 2025 so just under 6 months out of date. Obviously this does not bother me, it just makes wonder what it would have been like fresh. Anyways, to my verdict. Verdant Puttty was jam packed with flavour and is especially liked that fact that this did not hold back with its hop forward nature. I honestly feel this was great from start to finish. The mouthfeel was almost like you were drinking orange juice or something like that consistency. With it being a TIPA, I was worried about the alcohol warmth but this was well balanced and potentially dangerous with how sessionable this could be. Overall, I rate this a solid 4.5 out of 5.

Where did I purchase this beer?

I bought this from Rare Drop in Low Fell, Gateshead. This shop specialises in promoting North East based business. Calvin who runs The Rare Drop was so kind and helpful that I would recommend anyone nearby to stop off and check them out. I think this cost around £7.50.
