Verdant Puttty Triple IPA 2026 Review – Hype, Taste & Verdict

Verdant Putty always has a degree of hype around it and this also definitely applies to its stronger brother. Today’s review is on the mighty Verdant Puttty 2026 which is part of this years ‘be weird’ theme. I debated on buying this one as yeah I did really enjoy the OG this year and my hesitation was that how can it realistically be toped. So what did I think and was it worth the hype? To find out I will delve into the history of this beer and brewery, the pour, the taste and aroma and finally my verdict. Cheers

Iconic brew by an Iconic brewery

Verdant Brewing was founded in 2014 by home brewers Adam Robertson, James Heffron and Rich Warren to create US craft inspired beers. Their mission is ‘: “We make beers we love, now and forever.’ This was performed with quality, hop forwardness and innovation in mind.

Based in Penryn, Cornwall, their ethos has is mainly focused around being independent and inclusive. Verdant Brewing are known for juicy hop forward beers which are hazy and unfiltered . So everything I like in a beer. This led to Verdant Brewing being one of the brewers to set a high benchmark in terms of Craft Brewing in the UK.

Putty is Verdant’s flagship DIPA which is an anticipated annual release. The first edition was brewed in 2017 for Northern Monks Hop City festival which offers something bold and juicy. It was designed with malt profiles such as Golden Promise, wheat, oats and flaked wheat. A whirlpool and dry hopping combo of Galaxy, Mosaic and Azacca hops. Every January, Putty quickly sells out.

Verdant Puttty Triple IPA was first introduced in 2025, which aimed to take Putty and push it to the absolute limit. Keeping to the trio of iconic hops and the bweird theme, Puttty has many differences compared to the OG version. The Triple IPA reaches an ABV of 10% which includes a deeper and more aggressive hop saturation, a thicker and denser body as well as more intense dry hopping techniques (upto 30g/L). Similarly to Putty, Puttty is very much anticipated despite the 2026 edition only being the second version.

A smoothie like pour

This year’s Puttty Triple IPA pours an immensely thick and opaque smoothie appearance. This is a deep yellow to almost orange in colour which is reminiscent of a top notch New England IPA. A creamy off white head forms which retains throughout the drinking experience thus leaving a delicate amount of lacing down the side of the glass. The carbonation is soft and you can just about see a stream of bubbles travel up the glass. Overall, this has all the hallmarks of the Verdant Putty family which symbolises quality, saturation and high hop quantity.

An explosive and hoppy flavour

Aroma

When this beer is unlocked an explosion of tropical flavours erupt from the glass. Quickly followed by a citrus bitterness. The flavours include the likes of mango, pineapple and passionfruit with a sprinkling of tangerine. There is a definite dank note which is most likely from the deep hop saturation which is resinous and tones down the sweetness. A slight aroma of a soft biscuit to almost vanilla flavour is apparent. Overall, the beer definitely doesn’t allow you to forget that Puttty is a triple IPA, this has a deep rooted amount of flavour.

Taste

The taste and aroma of Puttty 2026 pretty much mirror each other. This is the huge hop intensity. Immediately you notice the eruption of tropical and citrus flavours such as mango, pineapple and passionfruit as well as a hint peach. There is also flavours of orange and lemon zests. Mid palate, the thick body unveils itself which has a smoothie like feel. This unlocks a mixture of a citrus and dank herbal bitterness which is that of its hoppy nature and hints of grapefruit. The finish has a bitter alcohol warmth which lingers long after the sip as well as a resinous flavour. This is remarkably balanced considering the amount of different flavours available. Overall, a top notch triple IPA which is immensely flavourful but has enough of a bite to remind you to take your time.

Time for my verdict

As I stated earlier, the brand of Putty typically comes a large degree of hype. However there is often a question of is it worth the hype it garners? From my experience and being that this is the 3rd Putty variant I have tried, I must say I feel this is worth the hype. It has a tremendous degree of depth of flavour and goes down like a 10% smoothie. Furthermore, it exemplifies how impressive a few small tweaks can create an immensely different drinking experience. Overall, I rate this a great 4.75 out of 5.

Where did I purchase this beer?

I purchased this beer from the House of Trembling Madness in York. Top tier beer shop and taproom. I highly recommend it.
