Another review today from the Beer52 Mexican box and it takes me to a well respected Mexican Brewery who has been providing a wide range of beer styles for over 15 years. Today’s review is on Cervecera Hércules Caballo Blanco which is an English Summer Ale. So during the course of this review I will explore what a Mexican take on an English ale is like, as well as covering the history of Cervecera Hércules. I will also tell you the pour, the taste and aroma and finally my verdict.
Brewery housed in an old mill
Cervecera Hércules is one of the most respected craft breweries in all of Mexico. This was founded in the Santiago de Querétaro district and is housed inside the restored Hércules textile mill, a place with centuries of history. The complex began life as the Molino Colorado, a flour mill built in 1592 by Diego de Tapia. In 1846, Spanish industrialist Cayetano Rubio transformed the property into the El Hércules Textile Factory, which became one of the most important textile mills during Mexico’s industrial revolution.
Founder Luis González wanted to create a brewery that celebrated traditional brewing methods while respecting the history of the site. Inspired by classic European breweries, particularly Czech and German lager traditions, Cervecera Hércules focused on producing fresh, high-quality beers using traditional ingredients and techniques. Over the years, Hércules produces around 50 different styles and has reputation for its high quality lagers, British inspired-ales and brews using Mexican corn. Today, the brewery is a hub for craft beer enthusiasts and is widely regarded as one of the breweries that helped establish Mexico as a serious player in the global craft beer scene.
Caballo Blanco “White Horse” is one of Cervecera Hércules’ flagship beers and is classed as a British Golden Ale. Caballo Blanco takes inspiration from traditional British brewing, offering a balanced combination of light biscuit malt sweetness, gentle floral and herbal hop aromas, and a crisp, refreshing finish. Its ABV is 5.2% and is designed to be quite drinkable and it personifies philosophy of preserving historic brewing techniques.
A bright and clear pour

Caballo Blanco pours a bright, golden colour which has great clarity. A foamy and thick head forms which leaves a creamy ring of lacing down the glass. The retaining of the head of was decent and it kind of provided a white cap. The carbonation was is steady and fine with constant stream of bubbles travelling up the glass. Overall, it is quite the exciting pour which is reminiscent of Britsh golden ale.
A light and approachable flavour profile
Aroma
Caballo Blanco opens with an inviting aroma of bready malt and honey. This is followed by a citrus to almost floral aroma too. This adds complexity without overpowering the malt base. A subtle fruity note of maybe grape rounds of the aroma. Overall, a light and refreshing aroma.
Taste
On the palate, Caballo Blanco opens with a clean malt note with flavours of biscuit and lightly toasted bread being pronounced. This is followed by a mild hoppy bitterness of a herbal to citrusy nature. Mid-palate, a faint honey-like sweetness appears before giving way to a crisp, dry finish that encourages another sip. The body of this brew is medium-light. Overall, a light and refreshing pour which chases balance over hop bitterness.
Time for my verdict
Overall, Caballo Blanco is a good interpretation of a British Golden Ale which aims for balance and drinkability. The malt base leads and is subtly supported by fruity notes. In a world of craft breweries trying to make extremely hop forward brews, it was quite refreshing to see something different. For this reason I will give this a decent 3.75 out of 5. Cheers
