When it comes to celebrating the heart and soul of Newcastle’s craft beer scene, Wor Beer Light Ale by Anarchy Brewery stands out as a true local gem. Brewed with pride in the North East, this light ale embodies everything that makes Geordie brewing great: heritage, character, and drinkability.
The History of Wor Beer Light Ale
Brewed by Anarchy Brewery, a well-known independent craft brewery located near Newcastle upon Tyne, Wor Beertakes its name from the Geordie word “wor,” meaning “our.” This isn’t just a light ale — it’s our beer, a celebration of regional identity and community spirit.
Anarchy Brewery has been part of the North East brewing movement since the early 2010s. Known for pushing boundaries while respecting tradition, the brewery created Wor Beer Light Ale to cater to drinkers who enjoy sessionable, easy-drinking ales without compromising on flavour or authenticity.
The Pour
Wor Beer pours a pale golden color, bright and clear in the glass. It forms a soft, white frothy head about one to one-and-a-half inches thick, which lingers just enough to draw you in. Serve it in a classic nonic pint glass or tulip glass to best appreciate its clarity and aroma.
Taste and Aroma
Wor Beer Light Ale delivers gentle malt sweetness on the nose with soft aromas of fresh bread, light caramel, and floral hops. It’s a clean and inviting aroma that hints at the balanced profile to come.
On the palate, the taste is crisp and smooth, with light biscuit and toasted grain flavors up front, followed by a refreshing, mild hop bitterness. The finish is dry, clean, and perfect for session drinking. At a moderate ABV, it’s the kind of beer you can enjoy pint after pint — which, as I’ll explain shortly, I definitely did.
My Verdict: 5/5 – A Beer to Remember

There are beers you enjoy, and then there are beers that become part of your memories — Wor Beer Light Ale is the latter for me.
I drank five pints of this golden beauty at The Percy Arms in Newcastle on one of the greatest nights of my life: when Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup against Liverpool. The energy in the pub was electric, the city was alive with pride, and this beer was in my hand the whole time. It’s now forever tied to that incredible victory.
That’s what great beer does — it doesn’t just quench your thirst; it becomes part of the moment. For that, Wor Beer Light Ale has earned a solid 5 out of 5 in my book.
