Thirsty Moose Brewing Co Belta Blonde Review – Light, Refreshing Session Ale

And another review of Thirsty Moose Brewing Co and this time it is the Belta Blonde Session Blonde Ale. The final one of my little haul from the Blaydon born brewery (Until I get my hands on North by North East). This is low ABV highly sessionable blonde which to be honest is not a style I would typically opt for but knowing Thirsty Moose this has to be quality. So during the course of this review, I will discover whether this was quality like every other beer from the Canadian-North East Brewery whilst touching on the history, the pour and the taste and aroma. Cheers

From family run roots

Situated in the Galaxy Park in Blaydon-on-Tyne, Thirsty Moose Brewing Co first brewed in August 2022. This is a family run microbrewery which pride themselves as being ‘North East brewers with Canadian heritage’. Thirsty Moose Brewing Co specialises in small batch brewing which allows them to give each beer the attention and detail it deserves. I think their flagship beer is Canny Canuck which is a maple Brown Ale.

Belta is a term I use quite a lot as proud Geordie, and I certainly use it a lot to describe this microbrewery. However, the beers name already says the word for me, Belta Blonde. Belta means fantasic, excellent or very good in Geordie slang. Belta Blonde is a 3.4% ABV session Blonde ale which is vegan friendly. Belta Blonde is marketed as ‘A purely belta blonde ale! A session ale with a harmonious and subtle blend of sweet citrus, passion fruit, honey, and light malt.’

A crisp pour

When poured from the can, this pours a glowing, clean yellow colour which was quite lively. There was visible head which left a small amount of lacing down the glass. Overall, this is a clean and lively looking beer.

Low Abv, high amounts of flavour

Aroma

When in the glass, a light and refreshing aroma reminiscent of a citrus and tropical sense with notes mainly comprising of passion fruit. It was noticeable that this beer had a slight honey smell which added to the sweet whilst also giving a malt backbone to the blonde. This is a warm, fruity and inviting beer.

Taste

This beer pretty much follows on from the aroma with noticeable flavours of citrus and tropical fruits with a balanced smooth malt backbone with a honey sweetness. This considerably gave the beer a sweet but malty taste which had a subtle bitterness. Overall, a balanced and easy drinking Blonde ale which I would recommend definitely.

Time for my verdict

To begin this beer once again has bolstered the claim that Thirsty Moose Brewing Co creates consistently delicious beers. You can tell the attention to detail added to each and every beer. This was drinkable and easily sessionable which despite the low ABV, it definitely packed a punch in terms of flavour. Overall, a very balanced and tasty blonde ale. I rate this a great 4.25 out of 5.

Where did I purchase this beer?

I purchased this as part of beer haul from Enjoy in Morpeth located in the Sanderson Arcade building. I can’t remember how much this cost but I know I purchased Canny Canuck when I was there.
