Low Quay Brew Co is a new brewery for me. There is a rich brewing culture over the river Tyne and this one is no exception. Whilst on a day out with girlfriend I stumbled across Low Quay actually looking for Flash House and I was thinking I have two breweries for the price of one. Moving on, I thought let’s give both a try and review, Krushin’ appears to be a hazy IPA which utilises a hop form I ain’t that familiar with called Krush. So what did I think about this beer? Find out when I cover the history of this beer and brewery, the pour, the taste and aroma and finally my verdict. Cheers
North Shields based rooted in the community.
Low Quay Brew Co is small independent microbrewery based in the Fish Quay area of North Shields. This brewery operates out of an old car garage and is a brewery, taproom and community area. Low Quay is deep rooted in its sense of community and craft ethos. Mainly brewing small batch brews which contains its core range and seasonal one offs.
Low Quay Brew Co takes pride in its use of quality ingredients and its local based approach. Its philosophy is centred around craftsmanship, flavour and social connection. I must say the tap room is extremely welcoming and it has a wide selection of brews. Unfortunately, I couldn’t try a draught option due to the car but the can was a welcome takeaway. I did however try a half pint from Lobo Rojo, a Mexican restaurant chain in the area, in which I was told was called ‘Mexican Pale’, if Low Quay reads this, I would love to know what the content of that was, it was delicious.
Low Quay Brew Co Krushin’ is a hazy IPA which is part of the trend of juicy, hop forward beers. Krushin’ carries an ABV of 6% and is double dry hopped. It contains hops such as Krush, Citra and Mosaic as well as Malts such as Extra Pale, Carapils, Oats and Wheat.
A glowing pour

The colour of this pour is an almost opaque golden to yellow pour reminiscent of a mango juice. As this is unfiltered, you can expect the full amount of haziness. A bubbly white head forms which appears to be tight and pillowy. As you drink, the lacing becomes apparent and clings to the glass, also the carbonation is relatively lively but not too aggressive. Overall, a pretty typical New England IPA pour.
A juicy IPA taste and aroma
Aroma
Low Quay Brew Co has a big, juicy hop aroma. This is almost tropical forward with flavours of mango, pineapple and passionfruit. A citrus zest becomes apparent as well as stone fruits. A light and bready malt backbone is the final layer which adds an extra layer of sweetness. Overall, a ripe and fresh aromatic hazy IPA
Taste
When its come to the sip, it bursts with tropical flavours along with citrus flavours. Think maybe mango and lemon zests. After the upfront sweetness, a subtle stone fruit taste becomes apparent furthermore a balanced hop bitterness is enjoyable. To finish, this beer is somewhat dry and clean with a lingering bitterness to finish. Overall, this was incredibly juicy and clean pour.
Time for my verdict
Overall, this is a cool find in North Shields during my day out with my girlfriend to North Shields and Tynemouth. A welcoming taproom and an even better pour, this is a hop forward and aromatic beer. I really enjoyed this beer which had such a tropical edge without it becoming over dominant. I look forward to try other beers from Low Quay Brew Co and I rate this a decent 4.25 out of 5. Cheers
