A beer from Blaydon based Thirsty Moose Brewing Co is a new one for me as until recently I had not heard of them. I have previously tried local beer from Firebrick which is situated in Blaydon and I was a big fan of their beer. So when I saw another beer crafted in Blaydon, I felt like I had to try it. Hazy Hinny is a Hazy pale ale and I thought it was a great way to try a new brewery. During this review I will cover the history of this beer, the pour, the taste and aroma and finally my verdict. Enjoy
A North East Brewery with Canadian roots.
Situated in the Galaxy Park in Blaydon-on-Tyne, Thirsty Moose Brewing Co first brewed in August 2022. This is a family run microbrewery which pride themselves as being ‘North East brewers with Canadian heritage’. Thirsty Moose Brewing Co specialises in small batch brewing which allows them to give each beer the attention and detail it deserves. I think their flagship beer is Canny Canuck which is a maple Brown Ale.
Hazy Hinny is a hazy pale ale with an ABV of 5.2% and comes in 440ml cans. Hinny is a North Eastern term which is used as a word of endearment typically for women and children. This may mean the beer is symbol and warmth and familiarity. A true symbol of the North East.
A lovely hazy pour

Hazy Hinny when poured looks like a right belter of a beer. It has a wonderful blonde body which is almost opaque. This is the typical appearance of a top notch Hazy Pale. There was a fluffy head which left a moderate amount of lacing down the glass. This lasted the entirety of consumption. The carbonation is quite lively and gave the haze an almost effervescent look. Overall, this is a full bodied and inviting beer.
A beer that invites you for more
When I first took a sniff of this fine ale, I was immediately greeted with bursts of tropical fruit mainly mango, passion fruit and pineapple with hints of orange and grapefruit. I could get hints of pine and black tea which gave the hazy pale a depth further than just fruit. Overall, a very juicy and inviting Hazy Pale.
When I first took a sip, I noticed that tropical and citrus flavours dominate especially orange and mango. There is earth like bitterness mid palate which I believe is from the pine and tea. This makes the ale rather refreshing. To finish it was smooth and dry with a well balanced feel. This was slightly creamy and it was full bodied. To conclude, Hazy Hinny is such a juicy and tasty beer which is well balanced thanks to the bitter edge. This is a very refreshing beer.
Time for my verdict
To conclude this review I will discuss the Thirsty Moose Hazy Hinny. This beer is interesting due its obvious North Eastern roots and I am a big fan of anything beer related from the North East. I feel the roots back to Canada is something that makes this Brewery stand out from the rest. In terms of this beer, I feel this is a top quality hazy pale ale which I could definitely tell the attention to detail placed in the can as this was extremely fresh and unique tasting. The depth of flavour is 100% a standout as it is juicy and citrusy with an earthy feel to it. I really enjoyed this one. I rate this a 4.5 out of 5 and I am looking forward to trying some more ales from Thirsty Moose Brewing Co.
Where did I purchase this beer?
I bought this beer from the cracking shop called Rehills of Jesmond. This serves so many different styles of beer ranging from Belgian to small batch IPAs.
