And another review of Thirsty Moose Brewing Co and this time it is about time I covered North by North East. This is 4.1% highly sessionable pale ale. All of the beers I have had from this Blaydon based brewery have been great, so does this one live up to my expectations. So during the course of this review, I will discover whether this was quality like every other beer from the Canadian-North East Brewery whilst touching on the history, the pour and the taste and aroma. Cheers
A great brewery in the North East
Situated in the Galaxy Park in Blaydon-on-Tyne, Thirsty Moose Brewing Co first brewed in August 2022. This is a family run microbrewery which pride themselves as being ‘North East brewers with Canadian heritage’. Thirsty Moose Brewing Co specialises in small batch brewing which allows them to give each beer the attention and detail it deserves. I think their flagship beer is Canny Canuck which is a maple Brown Ale.
North by North East is one of newest releases by Thirsty Moose. Carrying an ABV of 4.1%, this marketed as “An easy-drinking session pale with piercing clarity. Biscuity malt sweetness is rounded off by grapefruit, pineapple and passion fruit notes.” North by North East is a nod to the brewery’s roots in the North East of England. This beer is also vegan friendly.
A golden pour

Thirsty Moose North by Northeast pours a golden to light straw appearance. This beer is bright and has a clear look. A moderate head forms which leaves a small amount of lacing down the glass as I drank it. The carbonation is lively and really feels like a session ale. Overall, a clean and bright pour which is very inviting.
A taste and aroma that really represents this beer
Aroma
When it comes to the Session Pale Ale, the aromatics are that of a tropical, citrus and malt notes. With flavours of grapefruit, pineapple and biscuit-like malts. This really does well to offer a clean and inviting aroma whilst also keeping the beer balanced.
Taste
Thirsty Moose Brewing Co North by North East has a taste offering very similar to the aroma. This beer has a citrus based bite which is reminiscent of grapefruit. As the beer opens up on the palate, a plethora of tropical flavours present which is pineapple and passionfruit. This beer is quite sweet but the malt backbone keeps this balanced. The bitterness is moderate, which helps offer clean and dry finish. Overall, a really tasty and refreshing session pale.
Time for my verdict
To begin, this beer in my opinion just adds to the pretty consistent lineup Thirsty Moose offers. If you are looking for a Session Pale Ale, you cannot go wrong with this beer. North by North East is not only packed with flavour, but beautifully personified what it means to be from the North East with the Angel of the North. I highly recommend trying any of Thirsty Moose’s brews. Overall, I rate this a solid 4.25 out of 5.
Where did I purchase this beer?
I bought this beer from the brilliant Rehills of Jesmond. If you are in the Newcastle area I highly recommend a visit.
